Clancy Firefighter Climbs for Fund Raising

Clancy firefighter Jason Johnson recently represented CVFD in the “Scott’s Firefighter Stair Climb” at the Columbia Center in Seattle. The event, held on March 9th, raises money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). Jason raised funds by getting pledges from community members, and then completed the climb to honor the pledges.

Jason Johnson - Scott Stair Climb

The Scott’s Fireman Stair Climb, held on March 9th this year, is an event designed to test firefighters fitness and stamina. The climb consists of going up 69 flights of stairs – 1311 steps total and 788 feet of elevation – while wearing full turnout equipment, including SCBA (air tank). Jason completed the climb, despite suffering from a serious sinus infection, and raised over $1000 for the LLS. By raising this sum, Jason qualifies to participate again next year.

This year’s Stair Climb was won by Missoula City Firefighter Andrew Drobeck, who completed the climb in a near-record time of 11:04. The Women’s Competition was won by Las Vegas Firefighter Jaqueline Palmer with a time of 16:30.

Jason climbed on behalf of Claire Stone, a senior at Helena High School and daughter of a Clancy Elementary School teacher. Claire is currently being treated for Lymphoma, and was in attendance as Jason made his climb.

CVFD wishes to congratulate Jason on this exceptional accomplishment. Jason and the department also want to thank all those who pledged money for this great cause, and those who also helped Jason with funds to cover gasoline and his expenses.
